First Impressions: What a gorgeous pack!

I love the look of everything; the colors, the straps, the clips, and, of course, the bronze bottle opener.

There are ample outer compartments and pockets that keep those need-to-reach items organized and secure.

It includes all of your standard backpack amenities: top loading, hydration bladder pocket, hip-belt, easily adjustable straps, and the ability to be compressed from every angle.

But, the Jubilee 50 also includes a few features that are different from others I’ve seen and used.  It allows entry to the main compartment via a zippered divider located in the front pocket.  This means that you’re able to access the bottom of the bag without having to unpack everything.  The divider can also be completely unzipped and folded aside to create more space in the main compartment if desired.

There are also small zipper pockets on the hip-belt, perfect for your keys, chapstick, and phone.  But seriously, don’t bring your phone hiking.  There you are, inhaling deep breaths of Mother Nature’s wonderfulness, feeling the burning in your thighs, the flush in your cheeks, knowing with each step your closer to your goal, and then a phone rings. It is objectively a moment-ruiner.  So, if you must bring it, leave it on silent, or turn it off completely.

The clips did seem smaller and flimsier for a multi-day pack, but they didn’t give me any problems.

The lower back external padding was a bit much.  I didn’t really notice it until I put the pack on, and only then was overwhelmed at how thick and firm it was.  I was worried it would get uncomfortable, and the rubbing from the pads would quickly get annoying, but to my surprise it didn’t.  For the day trip that I used it, the pack only got more comfortable as I kept hiking.

The 50L space is perfect for weekend-and-beyond trips.  If necessary, there are plenty of loops to strap extras to.  However, there are no clips at the bottom to easily snap in a sleeping bag or tent.

If you don’t like the color scheme of the teal “Ocean”, you can always get the deep red “Radish” as well.

All in all: I really liked this pack.  It looks great; the shoulder, chest, and hip straps were easily moldable to my shape, and simple to readjust.  The bountiful compartments and pockets kept all of my belongings conveniently   locatable.  Though I was at first worried about the extra firm padding, it ended up being a very comfortable trek.

Hurley Foundation backpack

Hurley Foundation Backpack

Hurley Foundation Backpack – Amazon

With these bright, fun colors, you’re sure to turn some heads.  The Hurley Foundation pack comes in every color on the rainbow-literally.

This pack is great for any high school or college student.  The pack keeps students organized and comfortable.  The main compartment is spacious, and it can easily hold multiple textbooks and notebooks.  Plus, it doesn’t feel too bulky when packed with all your school essentials.

There is one major con to this pack.  The straps and material don’t seem durable enough for daily use.  My advice, find the pack on sale and buy two.  That way when you fall in love with the color and comfort, you’ll have a back-up if daily use is too much for this pack.

Joplin Khaki Wallet by Bed Stu

First Impression: All my stuff won’t fit in there. But I liked the look, the colors, the leather, the bag material, and its simplicity is very attractive.

Shop the Bed|Stu website here!

Apparently these small bags are really “in” these days, but like I’ve alluded, I am a big bag person. I have a ton of “neccessories.”  I carry a book , a notepad, a make-up case, a pair of flip-flops, a 350ml bottle of vodka etc.  My pocketbook wallet wouldn’t fit, but I think it would be redundant to bring a wallet in something advertised as a wallet anyway.  However, there are no card slots and no zippers. It’s just a small bag with a single divider in the middle, and my license, cards, and cash were just floating around with absolutely no organization.  The fold-over leather flap with one magnetic snap doesn’t give the assurance of security either.

There is only one strap that is completely removable, or adjustable in length.  But the strap adjuster is awkwardly placed, the excess strap bunches around the shoulder, it is uncomfortable, and looks inelegant when it gets twisted around.

There is only one color scheme for this bag which I don’t particularly mind, but others might. Also, Bed:Stu issues a warning that their eco-friendly dyes could rub off on your clothes, but I had no problem with this.

The bag looks good though, it’s the perfect size for a night out dancing without getting annoying.  I received many compliments from bar strangers about it on a night on the town in Boston, and even my brother whose nickname for me is “ugly” and couldn’t possibly care less about fashion thought it looked really good… It would be perfect with some more functional features.

Bottom Line: I wouldn’t spend $50 on a bag that isn’t secure, and doesn’t keep me organized… I just wish it didn’t look so damn good on me.
